As a Childcare Provider we work towards implementing the EYFS to the very best of our ability in order to ensure the best practice in our Montessori Nursery settings.
We always place the child firmly at the heart of the learning experience and use an informed approach to supporting children’s learning and development, gained through observational assessment and genuine partnerships with parent.
At our Montessori Nursery the adults listens to the child and love and respect their ideas. More so important is to be able to hear what the child has to say. By respecting each child we trust in their ability to learn in a well prepared environment.
Right from the start we gather as much information as possible about a child including their likes and dislikes, we also collect information about a child’s routine at home, we use this to facilitate the child’s settling-in period at nursery.
This principle is about the children learning to manage their feelings and build friendships. Good communication are vital. The children need to learn about risks and safety, how to make good choices, and how to stick to boundaries. They do best when all their physical and emotional needs are met.
At our Montessori Nursery sensitive and responsive key adult relationships helps the young child to settle well in a secure, trustworthy base for learning. The child can greatly benefit from their relationships with the key person if the relationship has a good mix of warmth and discipline.
Today’s research leaves no doubt that secure relationships are essential to early childhood education and care, a fact that Dr. Montessori recognized a hundred years back.
The EYFS acknowledges the critical importance of both the emotional and the physical environment. Practitioners working alongside the children will be able to see the environment from the child’s point of view and reflect on the possibilities that it has to offer.

When the environment is right, there is a contagious sparkle in the air, the children are deeply engaged in their learning and practitioners’ confidence soars as they are free to support each child constructively on their learning journey.
This principle recognise that all areas of learning are interconnected and that while children will need to be taught new skills, these should always be balanced by opportunities for them to independently apply, practice and consolidate their new learning through a richly resourced environment, inside and out.
The EYFS affirms that young children learn best through carefully planned, play based experiences that start with their strengths, interests and capabilities.
It acknowledges that young children are active learners and that they need opportunities to explore and make sense of the world, supported by knowledgeable, interested and sensitive adults.
