Baby Room (6 months – 24 months)
Children may start in our Day Nursery from 6 months and move through to our Toddlers room once they are turn two.
The journey is a gradual one with the motto, “Children first”, running through every decision we make.
The key to a Montessori Tulips room is peace. Natural lighting and soft music also make for a comfortable environment. Shoes will be removed when coming in so as to provide a clean and safe environment for crawlers.
Diaper changing, and all physical contact is done while using language, letting a baby know they will be moved, or what they are doing.
Adult actions will be described and talked about, to provide the beginnings of conversation.
Toys will be interactive and natural. We will use natural materials for touching; cotton, wool, silk and wood. Rattles will vary in material, shapes, colors and tones.
Infants are visual learners so looking in mirrors to provide visual stimuli.
Toddler Room (24 months – 3 years)
The next step is to our toddler room where children gain more independence and where they stay for approximately one year.
All furniture and shelves are child-sized and sturdy, giving children the ability to select their activities more easily, and promoting a sense of independence and confidence.
Children have freedom to access and choose from the a range of material within the Montessori curriculum and EYFS.
Our aim is to keep up with your child’s growth in each area.
Through observation we will assess if your child is ready for the next step of their development.
Their room environment will change as a child becomes ready for new milestones and challenges.
At rising three, children make the move to our downstairs preschool classroom.
Pre-School Room (3 – 5 Years)
The children’s day falls into five Montessori categories: Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, and Cultural Topics.
There is also time for group activities such as music, physical play, art, play, snack, and quiet time.
This is a beautiful and rich room in our environment.
Children experience creative activities with materials from all over the world and from many different cultures.
Painting, drawing, music, dance, role-plays and foreign languages are all incorporated into the children’s daily activities.
Children not only love these exercises, they also absorb developmental goals.
Our beautiful outdoor area is designed to give a good deal of physical activity, role play, creativity and imaginative play.
A lot of indoor activities such as painting, circle time, stories and construction are held outdoors. Midmorning outdoor play usually follows snack time. Children build structures or ride bikes and are encouraged to create new imaginative games of their own.
Learning Journey comprises photos of your child in action, some of their artwork, handprints, observations and achievements whilst at the setting.
We offer all parents the opportunity to have one of these lovely and unique children’s memory keepsakes.
Recording your child’s learning journey involves capturing some of their wow moments and activites whilst at Nursery.
This all helps to build a picture of your child, how they are developing and in turn helps us to meet their interests and needs and extend their learning according!.
Tell us if your child does something new or interesting and we can add this to the learning journey book.

The Nursery routine begins at the entrance where we meet and greet your child. Using the Montessori curriculum we fill each day with a combination of teaching, outdoor exercises and fun in order to present a full and stimulating environment for children in both mornings and full day.
Circle time begins after a visit to the pegs for the children to hang their coats, wash hands and settle in. Circle time includes a chat about the theme of the week and the fun we will embark on throughout the day. Children will spend time sharing experiences and items brought in from home.
Throughout the day your child is encouraged to choose from a variety of Montessori activities. Activities are selected from our Montessori practical life shelves and sensorial. Sounds and Numbers are included using the spindle boxes and sandpaper letters.
Whilst activities are ongoing practitioners carry out observations to track each child’s development. Observations are used to help select future planned activities and are shared regularly with parents via our Family app. This guides key persons on a child’s next steps.
Unique Child Nurseries has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of its children. This responsibility necessitates a Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, together with a Code of Conduct for all nursery-based staff and volunteers. We may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare.
Unique Child Nurseries are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff, volunteers and third parties to share this commitment. Safer recruitment practice and pre-employment background checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed.
Our Nursery is a fun and friendly Montessori preschool. Our nursery takes every opportunity to actively promote British values through its aims and principles, and prides itself as being a special place to which children of all ages love to come; feeling safe, secure, valued and cared for by each other and by the committed and motivated staff. We value the diversity of backgrounds of all children, families and the wider community.
